The year is 1999. This is one of the first projects I worked on after arriving in KC. The opportunity was to develop advertising that would help the Kansas City Area Development Council attract businesses and talent to relocate here. Rather than focusing on the usual Kansas City tropes, we went a different direction. What’s the first thing you do when you walk into a movie theater? You look for the middle seat. It’s got the best view and sound. Recognizing that Kansas City is, essentially, the middle seat of the United States — the midpoint between cultural and population epicenters Los Angeles and New York — we offer what they can’t: Balance. A better way of life, a better place to do business. If you want to see and hear America in stereo, come to Kansas City.
